Specialization within Master Progam Digital Sciences

Instruction Language :  English. This information page holds for all applicants with  English language level B2 and without German language level C1

The specialization Business Information Systems can be studied without German language skills (C1) (for details see the following). For students who additionally have German language skills (C1), a extended module catalog is available (see otherwise).

This specialization prepares students to assume bridging functions at the interface between business and information technology. This includes, in particular, the ability to develop a deep understanding of the business activities of a company, to penetrate economic fields of action and to derive requirements for IT as well as potentials of digitization in order to contribute to the success of a company through their implementation. The focus is on the strategically oriented development of socio-technical systems in which customers, employees, business partners and other stakeholders are supported through the integration of operational or inter-operational digital applications. The spectrum accordingly covers internal, inter-company and inter-company processes and includes both value-creating as well as administrative and decision-supporting task areas. In view of the rapid progress of digitization, the demand for a responsive IT landscape that is aligned with corporate goals and meets all quality requirements despite all dynamics has become a critical factor for the company. This is why the course of study is oriented towards the requirements for managers and management consultants who combine sound knowledge of business models with a high level of technical expertise. Graduates should be able to proactively implement corporate goals in design fields by evaluating offered technologies, standard application software, individual solutions as well as services, guiding development and implementation projects in an interdisciplinary manner and developing the IT architecture into an innovative factor. In doing so, they follow a holistic approach by taking into account not only economic but also individual needs and social aspects. In the most important field of activity, Empowering Business, in the Business Information Systems field of study, the focus is on analysis, evaluation as well as synthesis competencies for the creation of data and process transparency. In addition, the further development of a business process model and the optimization of business processes through digital services, the technical specification of customer-specific adaptations, the development of solution concepts as well as the automation of business processes are of great importance. This also applies to assessing the potential of digital services in business models and to prioritizing business requirements according to effort and business benefit. Graduates of this field of study have a wide range of tasks at their disposal. Examples include the further development of the business application landscape (ERP, CRM, data warehouse/data marts, databases, server/cloud solutions, middleware, etc. and IT interfaces (APIs, web services, EDI, etc.), the provision of digital technologies and methods, and the operation of digital services. Both in-house development and the introduction or customizing of standard software must be taken into account. In preparation for these diverse topics, emphasis is placed on the methodological skills needed to process and introduce technologies and tools. Since graduates work in a communication and collaboration-intensive environment, the corresponding competencies are specifically promoted.

The following description mirrors the state of the „examinition regulations“ for the program which is in the approval process currently. Minor changes may occur due to the approval. Therefore, the following Information are without warranty.
